this season… take the pledge!

Published by Noelle Olpin on 24 Nov 2008 | No Comments

I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org

Why buy handmade?

Buying Handmade makes for better gift-giving.

The giver of a handmade gift has avoided the parking lots and long lines of the big chain stores in favor of something more meaningful. If the giver has purchased the gift, s/he feels the satisfaction of supporting an artist or crafter directly. The recipient of the handmade gift receives something that is one-of-a-kind, and made with care and attention that can
be seen and touched. It is the result of skill and craftsmanship that is absent in the world of large-scale manufacturing.

Buying handmade is better for people.

The ascendancy of chain store culture and global manufacturing has left us dressing, furnishing, and decorating alike. We are encouraged to be consumers, not producers, of our own culture. Our ties to the local and human sources of our goods have been lost. Buying handmade helps us reconnect.

Buying handmade is better for the environment.

The accumulating environmental effects of mass production are a major cause of global warming and the poisoning of our air, water and soil. Every item you make or purchase from a small-scale independent artist or crafter strikes a small blow to the forces of mass production.

…our new location! This spring the Beehive Bazaar and After Party will be held at the Women’s Council Cultural Center located at 310 West 500 North in Provo. Directly adjacent to- and sharing a parking lot with the Veteran’s Memorial Pool and Pioneer Park. From this picture it seems we’re sporting a little bit of a beehive roofline there in the middle. Sweet.

Beehive Bazaar After-Party

Published by Molly Call on 09 Apr 2008 | No Comments

Soirée our way at the first ever Beehive Bazaar After-Party. Come mix and mingle with all your favorite Beehive Bazaar bohemia while enjoying an evening of live music, dj’s, dancing, food and an ooh-lah-lah fashion show. Tickets are only 5 dollars…what?! Tickets will be sold during the Bazaar or you can purchase them at the door. We’ll be posting more details soon–so check back.

The party will feature a fashion show by local designers Cherella USA and Nappi Clothing. We are thrilled to be working with Erin Olson of Haute and Prim, who will be working her fashion expertise as producer of the runway show.

Mathematics Et Cetera, Provo’s own indie gems, will rock the hive as our featured band. Be sure to show up early so you can get all front-row and maybe go for a stage dive or three.

back at work

Published by Noelle Olpin on 12 Sep 2007 | No Comments

It’s been a crazy beautiful summer, but now it’s time to get back to craft’n. Here is my work space, I just got these drawer and box inserts for my IKEA Expedit shelves- I love the perfect fit.
Ahh, my new smaller Expedit shelf, I love the cubbies for organizing fabric, books and all the other stuff that piles up..

Things are a little messy, I’ve got a few projects already underway. I’m trying to put the blocks of time I have when the kids are at school to good use.

Here we are, (l to r: Stephanie, Colett, Molly, and Noelle) just after the clean up Saturday night. Happy with thai food in our bellies, but very tired.
The Beehive Bazaar was a great success! We love our new location!
Thank you so much to Gallery One Ten, and Art Access of Utah for sponsoring us, and opening your wonderful gallery for our use. We couldn’t have done it without you!
We would also like to thank our vendors, without all of you and all your hard work, we would just be a few ladies craftin’ in the basement.
